Sally Yates Just Broke The Internet With Her Response To Trump’s Arpaio Pardon

On the heels of Trump’s controversial decision to pardon former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who was convicted of criminal contempt, former acting Attorney General Sally Yates issued a response that instantly went viral.

Arpaio, who has been a vocal proponent of Trump’s campaign since its outset, was awaiting his October 5th sentencing after his refusal to curb his hard-line immigration tactics landed him a jail sentence. The move incensed civil rights groups who have accused the former Sheriff of violating the Constitution.

This is not Yates’ first instance of frustration with the President. During what is now referred to as the “Monday Night Massacre,” Trump fired then-acting Attorney General Sally Yates after she announced that her Department of Justice would not defend his unconstitutional executive order on immigration, otherwise known as his “travel ban.” She was duly praised by the Democratic National Committee for standing up to a “tyrannical” president.

Just as Yates stood up for justice then, she is continuing to speak the truth now. Trump may have hoped that his misguided pardon would be overshadowed by the hurricane ravaging the Texas coast, but no amount of distraction will hide the President’s ill-advised and decidedly un-American activities.
